The Webster University men’s soccer team (1-1) fell to the hands of the Loras College Duhawks (4-0-1) on Saturday, Sept. 8 at St. Louis Soccer Park. Loras had defeated Webster in Round 1 of the NCAA tournament in 2009.

Sophomore midfielder Mike Wells scored Webster’s lone goal, his second of the year, but it was all the offense the Gorloks could muster. However, it was the first goal Loras surrendered this year.

Trailing 2-1, Webster surrendered a goal in the 44th minute to head into halftime down 3-1. In the third minute of the second half, Loras padded its lead with another quick goal. Webster shut down the Duhawks the rest of the way, but couldn’t score any more goals.

Earlier today, the Webster women’s soccer team took down Elmhurst College 1-0. Freshman forward Briana Small scored the game’s only goal. The win puts the women’s record at 2-1. It was coach Luigi Scire’s 199th victory of his Webster career.

Tomorrow, the men’s team takes on Rhodes College at 11 a.m. at St. Louis Soccer Park. The women follow with a game versus Monmouth College at 2 p.m.
