Baseball

A new era has fallen upon the Gorloks as long-time veterans Ben Swords, Matt Staker and Ben Kowalski have switched roles from players to assistant coaches. With a combined 18 seasons on the Webster roster, the three hope to help Webster make it back to the College World Series, even after their playing days.

The three-headed offensive monster of junior Evan Evola, senior R.J. LaRocco and senior Nathaniel Martinez will lead the lineup to another fantastic offensive season. Head coach Bill Kurich will have his work cut out for him, though, as he needs to find a way to fill the shoes of Staker and Swords on the left side of the infield.
The Gorloks kicked off their season with a 7-6 win against North Central College as they set out for their 17th straight SLIAC title.

Softball

A coaching scare left many things up in the air for the Gorloks heading into their 2024 softball season, as throughout the fall season they were without a head coach. Even so, the Gorloks managed to beat Division I school Saint Louis University in a 1-run game on Sept. 24, 2023.

Fortunately, interim head coaches Morgan Mansur and Robin Jones will take the reins on coaching duty for the year.

Infielder Katie Croxall will be the bat to look out for as the Gorloks seek to continue their winning ways and obtain their fourth straight winning season. Sporting a .417 batting average in 2023, Croxall will be the fuel starter for the Gorloks offense, and has already shown flashes of greatness as she has an astounding .667 batting average over the Gorloks’ first four games.

Golf

With a second and two third place finishes in the Transylvania Fall Invitational and Wittenburg Classic respectively, the fall season didn’t see any first-place finishes for the Gorloks. In the first tournament of the spring season, the Gorloks placed sixth and seventh at the San Antonio Shootout, with sophomore Jan Wdowka Antonio leading the charge for Webster, shooting the 5th best score of the two-day tournament at 188 (+8).

Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field

There are only two words to describe the Gorloks’ season so far: record breaking. Heading into the SLIAC Indoor Championships on Feb. 24, the Gorloks had broken at least one school record in their previous four meets.

Junior Isabelle Llewellyn has shown no signs of slowing down as she has broken her own weight throw record multiple times this season, setting the mark at 15.13 meters. As well, junior Josh Clark and graduate student Kaelin Triggs have also broken school records in the indoor 400m run and 500m run respectively.

The Men’s and Women’s teams placed 3rd and 7th respectively in the SLIAC Indoor Championships, with Kaelin Triggs taking home the sole gold for the Gorloks in the 400m.

Men’s Tennis

Despite dropping their first four matches of the year, the Gorloks are looking to bounce back and etch their first tally in the win column this spring.

With just a 2-3 record in the fall, the team’s star has been freshman Ethan Foucheaux, who represented the only singles point obtained by the Gorloks in the spring opener and finished the fall season with a 7-3 record across his singles and doubles matches.

Women’s Tennis

The pressure is on to keep up their hot start as the Gorloks head into the spring season with a 5-0 record. The fall season was a historic one as it represented the first undefeated fall in Webster’s women’s tennis history, and the Gorloks have no intention of looking back.

The individual match record speaks for itself with the Gorloks capping off their fall season with a 37-8 record in the category. The Gorloks performed at an astonishing level in doubles, finishing with a 26-4 in such matches. There are too many stars to highlight on the squad, but if there’s one to watch in the spring season, sophomore Journee White is the one to keep an eye on. White won all eight of her matches in the fall, including four doubles matches with junior Kylie Chitwood.
