The Webster University women’s soccer team was unable to come away with a victory on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at St. Louis Soccer Park, losing 2-0 to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Ind.).
Rose-Hulman, who defeated Webster last season in Terre Haute, Ind., scored two goals within a three-minute period in the first half. The Engineers scored in the 22nd minute and shortly thereafter in minute 25.
Even with the Gorloks behind early on, Webster remained aggressive at home throughout the contest, putting pressure on Engineer freshman goalie Lucinda Combs. Sophomore goalie Jessica Davis was able to shut out Rose-Hulman in the second half. Webster outshot Rose-Hulman 10-6 in the game but couldn’t find a way to get the ball in the net.
“We just need to handle the pressure a little bit better, and find that one pass to get that fielder in a little better position to shoot and score,” associate head coach Mike Hutchison said after the game.
With the loss, Webster fell to 3-2 on the season. The Gorloks’ next game will be this Sunday against Iowa Wesleyan College at Soccer Park at 2 p.m.
