Men’s Soccer
With a 4-3-2 conference record, the Gorloks squeezed into the SLIAC Tournament and knocked out Westminster and Fontbonne University en route to the program’s fourth straight SLIAC Tournament Finals appearance. Unfortunately, Webster’s run came to a close after a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Greenville University.
With 25 points, freshman forward Talha Dizdarevic was involved in nearly two-thirds of Webster’s 34 goals for the season, earning him Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-SLIAC honors.
One of Dizdarevic’s top performances came in his first collegiate game against Maryville University on Sept. 1, where he netted three goals and secured Webster’s first hat trick since Aamahn Murvin accomplished the feat against Blackburn on Sept. 22, 2022.
Women’s Soccer
In a stellar season for Webster, the Gorloks went undefeated in the regular season against conference opponents for the first time since 2018. However, this tremendous season came to a screeching halt after Spalding University knocked them out of the SLIAC Tournament Semifinals by 3-0.
Fortunately for the team, there’s a lot to look forward to heading into the 2024 season, as freshman Malaya Blakely and junior Grace Rodgers led the charge with 23 points each on the season.
Freshman goalkeeper Courtney Haneline spent every second of the 1,440 minutes played by the Gorloks on the pitch, sporting a .719 save percentage in the process.
Volleyball
The 2023 season represented the last hurrah for the two-time SLIAC Player of the Year, Lauren Borik. With her help, the Gorloks put on a show with a 13-5 record against conference opponents, including five set sweeps. The season came to an end, though, after dropping three sets to Greenville University in the SLIAC Tournament Semifinals.
Despite the departure of Lauren Borik, Emma Matteson and Delaney Demman this offseason, the roster is filled with newcomers to fill those gaps next season. In total, half of the 2023 roster were freshmen, with one of the standouts being Megan Zablonski, who had the second-most kills on the year behind junior Alyssa Jones at 174.
Men’s Golf
The Gorloks finished in the top three of three invitationals, including two third-place finishes in the Wittenberg Classic Oct. 15-16. In these final two matches of the fall season, the team shot a +25 and placed third among 13 participating colleges.
Senior Justin McCoy and sophomore Jan Antonin Wdowka led the charge in the Wittenberg Classic, both finishing with a +3 across two rounds. McCoy finished strong by shooting a -1 in his second round.
Cross Country
Webster’s Men’s Cross Country team finished 4th in the SLIAC Championships and 24th in the NCAA Midwest Qualifier. Freshman Ethan Nieorda placed the highest among all Gorlok runners in both races, finishing 8th and 90th respectively. For his stellar first year, Nieorda took home First-Team All-SLIAC honors. Graduate student Kaelin Triggs also received Second-Team All-SLIAC honors for his efforts this season.
Webster’s Women’s Cross Country team placed 6th in the SLIAC Championships, with Freshman Natalie Kist leading the way with a 30th place finish.
Men’s Tennis
Don’t let the 2-3 fall record fool you. The Gorloks look ready to kick things into high gear once the spring season is underway. Despite the losing record, Webster finished with a 23-23 record in individual matches, including a 9-6 record in singles matches and a 14-16 record in doubles.
The star of the team has been freshman Ethan Foucheaux, who finished the fall season with a 4-1 singles record and a 3-2 doubles record. The tandem of Foucheaux and senior Matthew Birchmeier dominated in the few doubles matches the pair played, concluding the fall season with a 3-1 record.
Women’s Tennis
The Gorloks will look to continue their dominance in the spring after finishing their first five matches with an undefeated record—the program’s first undefeated fall.
Webster capped off the year with an individual match record of 37-8 and an electric 11-4 record in singles matches. But the Gorloks really excelled in doubles matches, finishing with a 26-4 record.
Sophomore Bailee Pineda and freshman Evie Schuetz went undefeated in singles matches, finishing with a 4-0 and 3-0 record, respectively. But no one has shined brighter than sophomore Journee White, who went undefeated in all eight of her matches, including singles and doubles. To go along with her 4-0 singles record, the duo of White and junior Kylie Chitwood were victorious in every doubles match they played, winning 32 of 43 total sets.
