Men’s tennis beats Illinois Wesleyan and Augustana, improves to 17-2

The Webster University men’s tennis team defeated Illinois Wesleyan University by a score of 7-2 on Saturday, April 13 in Bloomington, Ill. A couple hours prior to the win over Illinois Wesleyan, the Gorloks rallied to beat Augustana College (Ill.) 5-4 in Bloomington.

Against Illinois Wesleyan, the Gorloks lost at 1 doubles, 2-8. Webster managed to win its next two doubles matches, 8-2 and 8-0 at 2 and 3, respectively, and headed into singles play ahead 2-1. The Gorloks won 5 out of 6 singles matches to clinch the win.

Webster started out slow against Augustana, going into singles down 0-3. Again, Webster won five out of six singles matches to earn the come-from-behind win. All five of Webster’s singles wins were three-set victories.

The Gorloks will go up against St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Fontbonne University on Sunday, April 14 at noon at the Webster Groves Tennis Center. With a win over the Griffins, Webster would clinch the regular-season conference championship and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming SLIAC tournament.
