Senior David Mueller tossed a two-hit shutout in the opener and freshman Isaac Behme struck out 14 in the nightcap as the Webster University baseball team shut down Westminster College in a Wednesday, March 28 doubleheader, 4-0 and 12-2.

With the pair of conference home wins at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Ill., the Gorloks improved to 12-8 overall and 5-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Webster has won five of its past six games. Westminster dropped to 5-12 overall and 1-4 in the SLIAC.

The right-handed Mueller continued his outstanding season by allowing only three Blue Jays to reach base. Mueller struck out seven as he improved his record to 3-1. His ERA now stands at 1.13.

Behme was nearly as good in Game 2, as he bettered his record to 2-2 with the win. The left-hander allowed one earned run on five hits, as he whiffed 14 Blue Jay batters while walking none. Behme lowered his ERA to 2.67.

Mueller and Behme didn’t need much run support, but the Gorloks’ offense stayed hot by notching 16 runs in the doubleheader. In its past seven games, Webster has scored 66 times for an average of 9.4 runs per contest.

The Gorloks don’t play their next games until Wednesday, April 4. Webster travels to Fulton to play a single SLIAC game against Westminster at 7 p.m.
