The Webster University women’s basketball team upended the Blackburn College Beavers 71-66 in a Saturday matinee at Blackburn College. Blackburn is celebrating its 100th year of basketball at the college and honored its players from the 1980s and ’90s.

With the victory, the Webster women’s team improved its overall record to 8-10, two games from .500. It was just their second road win of the season, but the Gorloks are now 6-3 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play for 2011-2012. Blackburn loses its 19th consecutive game, 20th dating back to last season, and remains winless this season.

The Gorloks next play on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 6 p.m. at Westminster College in Fulton. Webster previously lost a home game to the Blue Jays, 59-45, on Nov. 30, 2011, at Grant Gymnasium. Westminster is coming off its first conference loss, as the Blue Jays fell to Spalding University on Jan. 28. However, the Blue Jays still lead the SLIAC with a 9-1 conference record.
