Men’s and women’s tennis teams earn season-opening wins

The Webster University men’s and women’s tennis teams got their fall seasons started by defeating the Maryville University Saints by identical 7-2 scores.

Both teams are 1-0 on the season. Next up for both squads is a Sept. 20 match against Missouri Baptist University at 2:30 p.m. at the Webster Groves Tennis Center.

Here are the match results:

Men’s Team

Doubles:

1. Juniors Diego Alarcon and Agustin Villalba lost 8-5.

2. Junior Alex Magrath and freshman Josh Papes won 9-7.

3. Junior Josh Sellmeyer and freshman Zach Green won 8-3.

Singles:

1. Alarcon won 6-3, 6-3.

2. Villalba won 6-0, 6-0.

3. Magrath won 6-3, 6-1.

4. Papes lost 3-6, 6-2, 4-6.

5. Sellmeyer won 6-2, 6-1.

6. Junior Wakeel Rahman won 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.

Women’s Team

Doubles:

1. Senior Allison Tungate and junior Lindsey Hays won 8-4.

2. Freshmen Kathleen Kennedy and MacKenzie Wilder lost 8-3.

3. Freshman Sandra Gutierrez and senior Kate Coen won 8-2.

Singles:

1. Allison Tungate lost 6-3, 1-6, 0-6.

2. Freshman Marissa Lewis 6-1, 6-1.

3. Hays won 6-0, 6-0.

4. Senior Paige Tungate won 6-4, 6-2.

5. Freshman Lauren Hacker won 6-1, 6-2.

6. Freshman Isabella Espinoza won 6-1, 6-0.
