Webster University women’s basketball standouts Courtney Pursley and Kaliann Rikard were named to both the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) All-Tournament Team and the SLIAC All-Conference Second Team.
Webster seniors Pursley and Rikard earned these distinctions at the end of their Webster basketball careers. Junior Cassie Endicott garnered an honorable mention to the All-Conference Team. Coach Jordan Olufson nominated the players after last Friday night’s win against Eureka College.
Olufson said the All-Tournament honor is based on two games at the tournament, and the All-Conference Team honor is based on the 18 conference season games.
“There was no wrong choice of who we picked,” Olufson said.
Courtney Pursley said the victories in the conference were “team wins” and that it is sad only a few players are named for the All-Conference and All-Tournament Team honors.
“It felt good,” Pursley said. “It would have been nice to have a conference championship, but being honored in that way is good too.”
According to Webster Athletics, Pursley holds several Webster records: she is first in career free-throw percentage and fifth in rebounds.
Pursley wanted to thank her coach for the last four years and her teammates for a great season.
“I’m very fortunate to play four years of collegiate basketball and do it with the girls and make the friends I’ve made,” Pursley said.
The Webster women’s basketball team finished their season 17-10. The team lost the SLIAC title game against Spalding 60–58 on March 1.
“I say this every year. You’re only as good as your seniors, and I’ve been fortunate to have some great ones,” Olufson said. “Kaliann and Courtney are no different. They’ve been great all year.”
