Webster University student Sara Bannoura won 5th place for best feature story in a college newspaper at last weekend’s National College Media Convention in Louisville, Ken.

Bannoura won the award for her feature story on Webster alum Tom Palozola, a US military veteran who committed suicide in 2017.

Bannoura was the editor-in-chief of The Journal in the spring of 2018.

The Associated College Press presented the award at the convention. Bannoura’s feature story was one of the individual awards given, while team awards were also issued at the convention.

The Journal was nominated for the 2018 Pacemaker Award along with 37 other schools. The Pacemaker is an award given to the best college newspapers in the country.

The Journal was not one of 11 schools to win the Pacemaker this year, but it finished in the top 22 percent of the 165 schools who entered the Pacemaker competition.
