On Oct. 30, one day after men’s cross-country final rosters were due for the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship race on Sat. Nov. 2, a Webster University runner suffered a season ending injury. Webster Interim Athletic Director Merry Graf petitioned SLIAC Commissioner Will Wolper the morning of Oct. 30, for the chance to add a runner to the roster before the championship.
Webster’s team has five runners on the roster, only four physically able to run. Webster would be the only team in the race with less than five runners.
Wolper requested the NCAA Championship Committee to clarify language in its rule book about the process of adding a roster member after the Oct. 29 deadline. The rules are only visible to NCAA members. He said one rule requires the SLIAC to fine Webster, but he plans not to issue a fine.
