Sophomore Newcomer Tyler Thorman led the Webster University men’s golf team for the second weekend tournament in a row. He was the only Gorlok to shoot two rounds under 80 at the Transylvania Fall Invitational (Ky.). He finished tied for 39th.
Head Coach Andrew Belsky said their scores were the best they have ever had at the event. Transylvania University (Ky.) is the No. 1 ranked D-III golf team and Thorman beat the No. 4 golfer on that team by one stroke.
“The course was pretty straight forward,” Belsky said. “The greens were by far the hardest part of the course.”
Webster finished 11th as a team out of 18 schools and Belsky said that was a “solid” finish for his team.
The team was invited to participate in a tournament every top 25 D-III teams in the country are invited to. The Golfweek Collegiate Series is a five-week long event held at Sandestin Golf Course (Fl.), the same course as the 2012 D-III National Championship. D-1 men and women also have a separate tournament during the event. The series will take place on Oct. 13 thru 15.
Belsky said after one of the top 25 teams declined the offer, his team was invited to play and it was an offer he could not refuse.
