Smith pitches no-hitter, helps keep Gorloks perfect in SLIAC play

Webster University pitcher Dylan Dean Smith threw a no-hitter for the Gorloks against MacMurray College (Ill.) at Blackburn Field on Saturday, April 13. Before today’s outing, Smith had an ERA of 4.76 in five appearances for the Gorloks. With the win, Smith moves his overall record to 3-0 on the season, as Webster beat MacMurray 6-0.

Earlier in the day, Webster went up against Blackburn College in Carlinville, Ill. Junior second baseman Taylor Stoulp led the way on offense for the Gorloks. Stoulp went 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored and drove in 3 runs. Senior center fielder Cody Stevenson and junior catcher Ian Foege combined for 4 of the Gorloks’ 6 walks during the game. Webster had 13 hits in the game and blasted Blackburn 15-2.

A trio of Webster pitchers was able to hold off the Beavers. Senior Steven Dooley started the game and pitched 5 innings of 2-run ball.

Dooley moves his record to 4-2 on the season with the victory. Junior Kevin Lashley and senior Ryan Martinez threw the final 2 innings of work. Together, they allowed 2 walks and 0 runs.

The victories against conference foes MacMurray and Blackburn take the Gorloks to a 20-6 overall record. Webster is undefeated in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 12-0 record. The Gorloks have not lost a conference matchup since May of last season.

Next, Webster will play at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Ill., to do battle again with Blackburn in a doubleheader. The first game begins at 2 p.m.
