The Webster University men’s basketball team secured a spot in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament with an 89-67 win over the Principia College (Ill.) Panthers on Monday, Feb. 18 at Grant Gymnasium.
Webster’s official seeding will be decided late Tuesday, Feb. 19, depending on the outcome of Eureka College (Ill.) at MacMurray College (Ill.).
With a Eureka victory, the Gorloks will play the No. 1 seed, and host school, Spalding University (Ky.). A MacMurray win jumps Webster to the No. 3 seed to take on No. 2 Westminster College.
“It’s always a tough out,” said Webster coach Chris Bunch. “This time of the year, I’m always glad just to be playing somebody.”
The Gorloks had their second senior night in their final home game of the season.
Thirteen different Gorloks made appearances as three men playing in their final game at Grant Gymnasium led the team in scoring. Forward Roman Robinson, forward Derrell Lee and guard Cody Bradfisch ended with 21, 17 and 16 points, respectively.
Another senior, guard Jurgen Rama, tied with Robinson for the team lead in rebounds with 7. Rama had his best statistical game of the year with 7 assists, 4 steals and 3 blocks.
The game against Principia was originally scheduled for Feb. 5, but was postponed due to injuries at the time for Principia. The Panthers didn’t have enough healthy players available to participate that evening.
Webster’s first-round SLIAC matchup will be Friday, Feb. 22. The semifinal game will tip off at either 6 p.m. or 8 p.m. in Louisville, Ky.
