Monday, 10:58 a.m. An email from Housing and Residential Life reports water has been restored to Maria Hall. Marletto’s will be open by 11:00am (Monday, November 26, 2012). A Monday morning Webster University’s Facebook status said street repairs will continue where the break occurred at Big Bend and Edgar Road.
Monday, 1:25 a.m.: Maria Hall, Marletto’s Marketplace and Webster University’s library are without water after a water main break occurred early Monday morning. The break is near the Big Bend Boulevard-Edgar Road crosswalk. Keith Dudley, supervisor at facilities operations at Webster University, said it was too early to tell how long it would take to fix the break. He said officials will work as quickly as possible to restore water service to the building. No word yet on how the break will affect traffic or whether classes will be canceled Monday.
The break occurred at approximately 12:50 a.m. Monday. Before the break, witnesses reported brief electrical power outages in the Sverdrup building and the Webster Village Apartments. Power was restored seconds later. Soon afterwards, public safety officers assessed campus buildings.
As of 1:10 a.m., water had pooled near the sidewalk on the Maria Hall side of the Big Bend Boulevard. As people attempted to park near the break, Dudley asked them to avoid parking too close. He said the area might need to be clear for maintenance work.
Last May, a water main break occurred at the corner of Big Bend Boulevard and Plymouth. The break forced the cancellation of Webster University’s evening classes and the closure of food services that night. Classes resumed the next day.
