Nerinx president retires; replacement selected

Sister Barbara Roche is set to retire from her position as president of Nerinx Hall High School at the end of the 2012- 2013 school year. Roche joined the school board in 1982 and has been president since 1986.

On Oct. 30, John Gabriel, principal of Ursuline Academy in New Orleans, accepted the position as Nerinx president. He will start July 1, 2013.

“I am really humbled and honored to get this opportunity to work with (Nerinx),” Gabriel said. “I was so impressed with the community when I met it. All the constituencies were wonderful to me and to my wife when she came to visit. And I am certainly energized by the opportunity too, I have to say. After living in New Orleans for 27 years, getting the chance to move back to St. Louis is a very special one.”

Last year, Roche was honored for 25 years of service with Webster Groves declaring Dec. 2 “Sister Barbara Roche Day.” She is a member of the Sisters of Loretto, a Catholic order of religious women who founded Nerinx Hall, Webster University and more than 225 other schools .
