“Ferguson and Beyond” curator Terri Reilly discusses a variety of images from the African American History Initiative (AAHI) Ferguson Archives. The images are presented at the entrance to the gallery, setting the tone for the entire exhibit.
John Henry’s photo series is one of the first sets of photographs on display in the gallery. His series, “Untitled,” depicts mothers holding their sons in a range of settings that echo the plight of Black mothers and their sons anywhere in the country.
The sculpture, “Justice 4 Us,” was created by Ronald Young in 2018. Young creates by making one man’s trash his treasure. His technique involves scavenging for different parts and pieces of objects in his surrounding environment, whether from old tools, rusty metals and other materials.
Curator Terri Reilly, a professor in the Department of Art, Design and Art History at Webster University, views “All Hands on Deck” by St. Louis artist Damon Davis. The photographs show the hands of key people behind the Ferguson uprising in 2014.
