Anime is the perfect solution if you’re looking for something new

In today’s media age, it has become increasingly difficult for a lot of us to keep our attention. This can be the case due to a lot of different factors, but my guess would be that entertainment now is becoming incredibly homogeneous. We are sick of new teen melodramas coming out every other month. We’re in dire need and want for something new, something bold, something … just a tad bit strange. What could that be? Well, let’s talk about anime.

For those who don’t know what anime is or if you just want a better general understanding, anime defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary is “a style of animation originating in Japan that is characterized by stark colorful graphics depicting vibrant characters in action-filled plots often with fantastic or futuristic themes.” Sounds pretty cool right? Then why aren’t you watching it?

Now, let me not act as if anime is this super elusive thing.

Anime has certainly taken off in popularity recently due to people being more open to try new forms of media nowadays. But, this wasn’t always the case.

Not too long ago, anime was looked at as a “nerdy” taboo. For the longest time, anime has been written off by a vast amount of people due to the negative stereotypes the media has garnered throughout the years. Whether it be the stereotype of anime being nonsensically hypersexualized or that anime shows are just “Japanese cartoons” implying that the content is meant for children. However, these two stereotypes couldn’t be any less true.

An important factor to note when it comes to getting into anime is that besides the aesthetic of the material, it is no different than any other media you consume now. In fact, in some cases, the aesthetic itself combined with these fantastical stories can make anime that much better than traditional entertainment.

The way these stories are so beautifully animated and produced makes it very difficult, or even downright impossible, for an anime to be adapted into the traditional live-action production we’ve become so accustomed to.

This allows for some truly unique storytelling that you can only experience if you just give anime a shot! Are you into psychological-crime thrillers with compelling supernatural elements attached to it? The series “Death Note” is just for you.

Do you want a slow burn action-adventure story with the best visuals the industry has to offer? The critically acclaimed “Attack on Titan” is what you’re looking for.

Or maybe you’re a sports fanatic and you want to see your favorite sport portrayed in a hyper-stylized, over the top fashion. Shows like “Haikyuu!!” or “Kuroko’s Basketball’’ will definitely be your next binge watch!

What I’m trying to say here is that there is anime out there that will appeal to literally any demographic.

So, are you convinced yet? Well if you are, I have good news for you. You can find every anime I mentioned here on Netflix right now! Netflix currently has one of the best catalogs of anime a beginner can get their hands on. Whether it be the older, must-watch classics or the newer industry-leading titles, Netflix has it all. So, what are you waiting for? Go watch some anime!
