Former Webster University Athletic Director (AD) Dr. Thomas Hart was recently named the new commissioner of the USA South Athletic Conference.
The USA South Athletic Conference, formerly known as Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, changed its name in the name February 2003.
The conference is a part of NCAA Division III (DIII) and is recognized as one of the oldest DIII conferences in the nation.
Hart served 21 years at Webster, 19 years as the school’s Athletic Director. Hart also coached men’s basketball and men’s golf where he is one of six people to ever be named St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Coach of the Year in two different sports.
Under Hart, the Gorloks’ athletic program grew from 72 student-athletes in eight sports to 220 student-athletes in 16 sports. Webster appeared in 49 NCAA tournaments and won 52 SLIAC titles through his tenure.
Students in the athletic program graduated at a 10 percent higher rate than the campus student body with Hart as AD.
In 2013, Hart left Webster for Berry College, where he inherited the first year of the school’s football program and added a full track and field program.
Hart has served on the NCAA DIII Championships Committee, NCAA DIII Men’s Basketball Committee, and twice served as President of the SLIAC.
