Webster men’s basketball loses to Spalding University; playoff chances in jeopardy

Webster University’s men’s basketball team lost to the Spalding University Golden Eagles 76-65. The Gorloks are currently not in the final spot for the conference tournament, but make the tournament if: Webster defeats Iowa Wesleyan AND Eureka College beats Greenville College or Westminster College loses to Principia College.

The Golden Eagles got off to an early lead behind the three-point shooting of senior guard, Brandon Goeing. Goeing scored 20 points behind five of ten shooting from three, giving Spalding a 39-32 lead at halftime.

After a slow start to begin the second half, the Gorloks found themselves behind as many as 18 points.

Webster Head Coach Chris Bunch put in senior Tevin Evans with eight minutes left in the second half which sparked the Gorloks’ offense. Webster made a slight comeback, bringing the score within eight, but the Gorloks could never take the lead.

Hunter Ward led the Gorloks with 17 points, nine rebounds, three assists and four steals.

Webster’s next game is Sat., Feb. 20 against Iowa Wesleyan.
