Leadership at Webster University have approved a voluntary furlough program for the summer of 2014. The program allows all full-time and part-time U.S. staff to voluntarily take-off one unpaid week, according to Webster Today. Last year’s trial furlough saved almost $15,000 in salaries, which was set toward student scholarships.
The article said the decision was made based on a trial period last summer. To qualify for the program, staff members must also have been employed by the university for at least six months at the time the furlough begins.
A staff member must have advanced approval from his or her supervisor and must be a full-week (Monday – Friday) employee, according to Webster Today. The week taken off must not interfere with “staffing priorities of the campus or department.”
Furlough dates are from June 1, 2014 through August 10, 2014. Staff who are interested are asked to discuss the opportunity with their supervisors, according to the article.
The article said once approved, the furlough should be sent to the Payroll Office at least one week in advance of the requested dates.
