Susan Polgar’s Institute for Chess Excellence (SPICE) team will head to New York City and compete in The Presidents Cup, also referred to as the Final Four. The competition is April 4 through 6.
Polgar brought the team to Webster in 2012. She told a Journal reporter in January 2014 the biggest competitor for Webster at the Final Four will be the programs former home,Texas Tech University, the former home of SPICE
The SPICE team has 15 members, including nine chess grandmasters. Polgar, a grandmaster and the director of SPICE at Webster, coaches the team.
The SPICE team made it to the Final Four thanks to a first place win at the Pan-American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship last semester.
