It was the first home game for Webster University’s men’s basketball team on Nov. 19, but it ended up being the most thrilling contest of the season. Webster lost to Bluffton University 79-76 in overtime, but the game, especially the finish, provided plenty of excitement.
The game was close all the way until the end, but in the final seconds of regulation, Webster trailed Bluffton by three. Junior guard Dietrick Sooter, in his first game for the Gorloks, hit a 3-pointer with 2 seconds left to send the game into overtime — tied at 68.
The game remained tied in the final seconds of overtime as well. Bluffton had possession and only needed a 2-pointer to win. Mychal Hill chucked up a 3 and sunk it with 0.4 seconds left. The 3-pointer gave Bluffton the 79-76 victory.
Despite the loss, it was a coming-out party for Sooter and junior forward Roman Robinson. Sooter finished with nine points, while Robinson recorded a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
