Graduation fees increase this year at Webster

Last year, a cap, gown, tassel and hood were $72 for a Webster University undergrad and $84 for a graduate student before tax. The prices for graduation items have risen nine dollars this year because they are now made with a sustainable eco-friendly product, said Jeff Smithson, manager of the bookstore.

Newsletter promotes community relations

Webster University began distributing a four-page newsletter to the Webster Groves community in 2004. The purpose was to encourage more communication and promote positive relationships between the two entities, said Barb Ehnes, director of media and community relations. Stroble also mentions the possible construction of a residence for her on campus.

Education graduates uncertain about employment

Education graduates question their likelihood to find a job as a volatile economy causes state governments and school districts making budget cuts in education. Public schools receive funding from federal and state governments and local taxes. When these resources dwindle, schools compensate by cutting costs, which has lead to teacher layoff.

Students say good-bye to Thomas

The 21 close-knit Conservatory students and lone photography student are waiting for the bus to embark on the seven-hour journey to Fort Wayne, Indiana. They are traveling to the funeral of their friend Thomas Carter Flueckiger, a freshman lighting design major. Thomas died March 28 from lung cancer.
