Katy Meyer, a Webster University women’s basketball senior, eclipsed 1,000 career points with her first basket against Greenville College on Jan. 22. She is the fifth Webster women’s basketball player to accomplish the feat in the university’s history.
Meyer, who led the Gorloks with 15 points in the 83-71 win over the Panthers, wasn’t even aware she had hit the milestone.
“I had no idea I was even close,” Meyer said. “I was actually shocked I went over 1,000 points because coach had to tell me after the game.”
With seven games left in the regular season, Meyer has a chance to move into the top three in career scoring. She is averaging over 12 points per game on the season, and is 49 points behind Tara Fortschneider, who is in third place on the all-time list.
“It would be nice to be in the top three,” Meyer said. “I am proud of myself, but I am more concerned with winning the conference and the conference tournament.”
Meyer will have a chance for more points this week, as the Gorloks travel to Eureka College on Jan. 29.
