Webster baseball wins two of three over the weekend

Webster University baseball opened their season with a win against Covenant College in Memphis, Tenn.

The Gorloks started off the game with a home run by junior outfielder Brandon Smith.

After two runs by Covenant, Webster exploded for six runs in the fourth and fifth innings giving them the lead, 7-2.

The final score was 13-8. Jack Bensinger was the winning pitcher after pitching 5.2 innings with four earned runs, four walks, four strikeouts and six hits allowed.

Blake Thomas had a home run and a double in five at-bats with five RBIs.

Game 2:

The second game was against Huntingdon College. Webster had team ace, Matt Goro starting on the mound.

Goro pitched seven solid innings allowing two runs, only one of which was earned. Senior Mitch Stefani came in relief of Goro and allowed six runs in 1.2 innings pitched.

The Gorloks fell 9-6 to bring their season record to 1-1. Losing pitcher was Stefani.

Sophomore outfielder Mike Wick went 3-5 with one RBI.

Game 3:

Game three was against Rhodes College where the Gorloks won 5-4.

In the fifth inning, trailing 1-0, freshman infielder Jake Milosch hit a solo home run to tie the game. Webster continued by scoring three more runs that inning.

The Gorloks scored again in the eighth inning on a RBI single by Milosch, bringing the score to 5-3.

Stefani closed the game out for his first save of the season.
