Associate head coach of Webster University baseball, Zach Getsee, has been tapped to become the new head coach of the Quincy Gems. The job was offered to Getsee during the holiday weekend and he was announced as manager Tuesday, Dec. 2.

Getsee will be replacing former manager Chris Martin after Martin stepped down last week due to family reasons.

The Quincy Gems are a collegiate summer baseball team that plays in the Prospect League in the Illinois area.

“It is a great opportunity. Walking into a place as committed to their team as everybody is here at Quincy that’s nice to walk into,” Getsee said to Ben Marth, sports director at WGEM radio station.
